Introducing: A Charming Hello.

Image
Looking for artistic inspiration? Look no further.  I stumbled across this website the other day while looking up Luis Quiles (as featured in my earlier posts). It's called A Charming Hello. I spend a considerable amount of times looking at blogs, most of which are beauty/fashion related. So I find it refreshing to occasionally stumble across a different kind of blog that I'm drawn to. This particular blog has all sorts of artistic forms. Whether its photography, interior design, graphic design or typography this website has a wonderful selection. If you're seeking some inspiration for your living room. Or if you just enjoy looking at very interesting visually appealing things, it's worth checking out.  Check out A Charming Hello   But for now, here's some things off their site that I liked.

Today I'm Listening To: Marilyn Manson

Image
This may or may not come to some people as a surprise but I'm a huge fan of Marilyn Manson. Although I haven't listened to him in a few years as my music taste tends to change, a lot. For some reason I feel he'll always be an artist I'll return to. I've a lot of respect for him as an individual who appears (from interviews and documentaries I've watched) to be a smart and very aware individual, rather than the reckless rock star people assume he is. I also very firmly believe he is a musician challenges a lot of societal and cultural issues. There is also something I find fascinating about Gothic culture and Marilyn undoubtedly extends that appeal for me in his videos.  For anyone whom is further interested I'd thoroughly recommend the album Mechanical Animals as it's one of my favorites. If I could have I would have recommended User Friendly but there isn't a video available.  I am however going to share the video for This Is The New *hit,

Luis Quiles, Social Media and Sexism

Image
Luis' work popped up on my tumblr newsfeed a while back and I really loved it. I'm always fascinated by things which seem shocking and offensive but Luis' work evidently has a much deeper purpose. Undoubtedly his work is shocking but offers a very interesting critique of society and modern cultural phenomenons.  I've recently being covering some interesting material on biopolitics, a Foucaltian idea. Whereby an individual is governed by a variety of different things such as media, technologies, educations etc. By governed I mean regulated or controlled so to speak. Interestingly I have been focusing on media as a means of regulating.  In relation to Luis Quiles work I think it's interesting to consider how some social medias and online medias regulate gender roles and simultaneously sexism.  This second image I found extremely interesting. Instagram as many of you know, is an app designed to share photos and consequently focuses upon the vis

Today I'm Listening To: Daft Punk (Awwh Yeah!)

Image
Okay, so I'm really not up to speed with Daft Punk at all - I know, what am I evening doing with my life right? Anyhow, I discovered this absolute amazing tune the other day.  Literally nothing but feel good vibes all round! It's Friday so no better day to share it. Hello weekend. Also on a side note, we've had awful weather in Dublin all weekend and it finally stopped raining. Great start to the weekend.  Here's Daft Punk with Alive, a mash up of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and Around The World.

Today I'm Listening To: Kendrick Lamar

Image
I've been listening to a lot more hip hop and rap music lately, normally I'm a bit more of an indie, folk type with my music. Nonetheless, as a genre it's gradually growing on me. I suppose predominantly stemming from Childish Gambino.  I was listening to radio on Spotify based on Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar popped up. I'm well aware I'm a bit late to the party with Kendrick, as he has blown up in the last few years. For some reason when I listened to him before I just couldn't get into him at all. Today I'd like to share A.D.H.D I love this video and the song in general.
