Today I'm Listening To: Mac Miller

Image
Recently I've been listening to a lot of Mac Miller and he's really growing on me.  This song is called "The Weekend" something we can all relate to. It also feels like a very summery song and the video is very aesthetically pleasing.

Today I'm Listening To: Syd

Image
Some of you might already be familiar with Syd. Syd originally started off with Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. To be entirely honest I was really shocked by Syd's voice when I first heard it, after watching her perform a dj set for OFWKTA in Dublin back in 2011, it was so intense and her voice and the music she produces is so drastically different to Odd Future. Syd then went on to The Internet, who released their first album in 2011 called Purple Naked Ladies, including the song 'Cocaine' which I grew to love very quickly. The Internet unquestionably has a number of really incredible musicians. After doing some collaborations with the likes of Snakeships and Kaytranda, Syd has finally gone solo and released her first album earlier this year. She's someone I expect will continue to grow and bring out some really great music in the future. Here is All About Me,

Today I'm Listening To: London Grammar

Image
I'm possibly a little late with this one. London Grammar finally returned to the scene, I have personally been longing to hear more.  They have returned with the song 'Rooting For You' which is extremely raw and shows Hannah Reid's exquisite voice in all its' bare beauty.

90s Classic: Garbage

Image
If you don't know Garbage, you need to sort that out immediately.  I was pretty much raised on Garbage when I was younger and Shirley was a real role model for me. When the alternative female icons were people like Britney Spears it was so amazing so see some sassy, grungey and smart presenting something really edgy.  Shirley still remains iconic. Shirley is an artist who really promotes a strong feminist agenda, but unlike every other female artist like Taylor Swift she does so by promoting actual theory and arguments rather than bold statements about sexism. Recently sharing Rebecca Solnit's book Men Explain Things To Me on Instagram. She's really maintained her role model identity in my eyes.  Here's an all time 90s classic by Garbage.

Today I'm Listening To: HTML Flowers

Image
I have been OBSESSIVELY listening to this artist recently. The song 'Storm Bloom' would be my favorite but I couldn't find a great quality version. Instead I've featured 'Almost Living' by HTML Flowers.

Today I'm Listening To: Girl Band

Image
Upon a recommendation from a good friend I recently discovered a local band. I'm horribly out of touch with local/Irish bands the last (good) few years, honestly it has been too long. But nonetheless, I eventually found this incredible punk inspired band from Dublin. With their undoubtedly bizarre but fascinating videos, this is Girl Band.

Majestic Beats

Image
It's been a long time, but here is an amazing mix from Majestic if you're looking for some new summer jams and all round chilled out vibes.

Today I'm Listening To: Tinashe

Image
Tinashe is really making a strong name for herself recently especially having featured in 'All My Friends' with Snakeship.  Without a doubt she's got a very relaxed mellow vibe. Which I think we haven't heard from a female R'N'B singer in a while. Here's Player.

Today I'm Listening To: Banoffee

Image
Ok I think it's safe to say that a weekly discovery playlist is definitely the best part of Spotify. I know it has been an age since I've shared some new music, so long that I didn't even know where to begin.  So here is Banoffee 'With Her.' A lovely mellow beat and a sweet story. Unfortunately I couldn't upload the actual video on this for some reason. Also I'm not sure if it's just me, but isn't the courus from Mario's song 'Let Me Love You'?

Today I'm Listening To: Disclosure.

Image
Disclosure certainly do not need any level of an introduction, after blowing up from their debut album they have returned with their second album, teaming up with some new musicians to produce some incredible sounds. They have released a video for Magnets which they have teamed up with Lorde to produce. Lorde is undoubtedly an incredibly talented girl who has a unique sound. Disclosure and Lorde are truthfully a match made in heaven.

Today I'm Listening To: Rudimental

Image
Rudimental have been around the block for a while and I've been a fan from the get go. I'm not sure what you would categorize Rudimental as, genre wise, but they wouldn't be my usual. When I saw the video for 'Waiting All Night' I was so inspired to see popular music with a fresh video about something a bit more real, rather than girls dancing at a club.  Their latest release 'Rumour Mill' I've been listening to non-stop and really enjoying it. Also I really love the video for this, I'm not sure if it's the simplicity or the black and white - probably both.    Rudimental feat. Anne-Marie and Will Heard - Rumour Mill

Today I'm Listening To: Wolf Alice.

Image
It's been a while since I've recommended some new talent. I saw this group as a support act fro The 1975 last year when they played in Dublin and I was extremely impressed. A few weeks ago one of their music videos was playing on MTV which I was delighted to see.  Safe to say I'm always a sucker for a rock-chick in a talented band. I can't quiet put it on my finger why I like them so so much. Perhaps it's the fact that they are oozing potential. I can imagine their songs featured on amazing soundtracks in the near future. This is Wolf Alice. I'm going to share two songs which I've been listening to obsessively over the last few weeks, which are Blush and Bros.  Wolf Alice - Blush Wolf Alice - Bros.

Today I'm Listening To: Snakehips

Image
Summer is almost here, I can taste it.  I've been completely swamped with college work and am still powering through, so I've definitely been a little neglectful recently.  However, this is an amazing tune which I've discovered. Good vibes anyone? Also this video is awesome. This is Snakehips with Forever Pt. 2

Today I'm Listening To: Josef Salavat.

Image
Yet another wonderful discovery on Spotify, which is why Spotify is really growing on me as it suggests music you will love. That aside, I found Josef Salavat the other day when listening to music.  If I had to attempt to describe him, I would say perhaps a happy version of James Blake. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten much out at the minute but I'm most definitely looking forward to hearing more of his music and anticipate him being featured on a lot of soundtracks for some reason.  I'm going to share two videos because I really love both of these songs. The first being 'Hustler' which is a serious enough melody with wonderful beats supporting it.  The second is 'Open Season' a much more upbeat one. Maybe I have heard this already on a soundtrack? It's a song that gets me excited for summer for some reason. This video is a lovely black and white live video.

Today I'm Listening To: Marilyn Manson

Image
This may or may not come to some people as a surprise but I'm a huge fan of Marilyn Manson. Although I haven't listened to him in a few years as my music taste tends to change, a lot. For some reason I feel he'll always be an artist I'll return to. I've a lot of respect for him as an individual who appears (from interviews and documentaries I've watched) to be a smart and very aware individual, rather than the reckless rock star people assume he is. I also very firmly believe he is a musician challenges a lot of societal and cultural issues. There is also something I find fascinating about Gothic culture and Marilyn undoubtedly extends that appeal for me in his videos.  For anyone whom is further interested I'd thoroughly recommend the album Mechanical Animals as it's one of my favorites. If I could have I would have recommended User Friendly but there isn't a video available.  I am however going to share the video for This Is The New *hit, ...

Today I'm Listening To: Daft Punk (Awwh Yeah!)

Image
Okay, so I'm really not up to speed with Daft Punk at all - I know, what am I evening doing with my life right? Anyhow, I discovered this absolute amazing tune the other day.  Literally nothing but feel good vibes all round! It's Friday so no better day to share it. Hello weekend. Also on a side note, we've had awful weather in Dublin all weekend and it finally stopped raining. Great start to the weekend.  Here's Daft Punk with Alive, a mash up of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and Around The World.

Today I'm Listening To: Kendrick Lamar

Image
I've been listening to a lot more hip hop and rap music lately, normally I'm a bit more of an indie, folk type with my music. Nonetheless, as a genre it's gradually growing on me. I suppose predominantly stemming from Childish Gambino.  I was listening to radio on Spotify based on Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar popped up. I'm well aware I'm a bit late to the party with Kendrick, as he has blown up in the last few years. For some reason when I listened to him before I just couldn't get into him at all. Today I'd like to share A.D.H.D I love this video and the song in general.

Today, I'm Listening To: Gesaffelstein

Image
For some of you this may seem like something I'm unlikely to listen to, but I'm pretty varied with my music taste. A friend introduced me to this amazing DJ a while back and I had forgotten about him. Recently I've been listening to him considerably more lately when I've been going running (when I say running I mean struggling to run). Without further delay, this is the French DJ Gesaffelstein. I'd like to share the video for Pursuit because I think it's a really bizarre video with some really interesting things featured. Also an incredible song.

Today, I'm Listening To: ASTR

Image
These were a wonderful discovery on Spotify, so I can't take much credit. They have a great, relaxing electro sound which reminds me of some cool 1990 bands like Portishead. I'm a bit of a sucker for a female vocalist with electronic music, so these were love at first listen. Interestingly they remind me of Young Wonder a lot. For the record, they also have a fantastic cover of Drake's hit 'Hold On We're Going Home.' I'd like to share 'Operate' as this song has really grown on me. I also really enjoy these video with a retro kind of film with the unclear filming and montages.

Today I'm Listening To: Broods

Image
This exceptional duo where a discovery on Spotify oddly enough. There's something distinctive about these two which I really love and I can't quite put my finger on it. The singer reminds me of Banks, but the music and lyrics are arguably better. Also some aspects of the music, harmonies and looping would remind me if James Blake. Perhaps it's the combination of the two which I love so much.  I'd like to share the video for Bridges. I've been listening to this song on repeat since I've discovered them. Literally non stop. I love the simplicity of the corus with the strong background beats. I also really love the video which is the simplistic concept of exploring a couples' relationship. Something that's become a new theme that I love to see.
