HAIM

I decided I'm probably very over due a slightly more light-hearted post. A lot of my posts recently have been very serious and dealing with important issues. Which is always good, but it's nice to have a mix of everything which is my aim!


This is HAIM, and I've chosen their video 'Failing' as I love it and think it's very very catchy!


I've heard a lot about this band and have been meaning to look into them for quiet some time. I eventually got an opportunity to do so. Truly incredible. It's always nice to discover a new female band, being the feminist that I tend to be I always enjoy a female band.

They are unusual and hard to describe but would to an extent remind me of some bands from the 90s? Maybe that's a bit radical. They remind me of earlier rock bands, which is nice, creates a sense of nostalgia but from a new group which is refreshing!

So everybody loves tumblr. I'll admit, it's great for art ideas, decoration, style ideas, and just generally things which are nice to look at. But tumblr, like many social networks, also has a dark side. As many of you who use tumblr already know there is some unusual pages, which is good, it's always nice to see variety in blogs and there is something for everyone. Although, there is some pages on tumblr which are perhaps indulgent, and encouraging the wrong things. Some that I have seen include pro-self harm pages, pro ana/mia (ana being anorexia and mia being bulimia). pages, which is frankly disgraceful. Recently I found this page, which has the same concept as post secret, where you share a secret about your eating disorder, self harm problems or anything else. Luis Quiles, Social Media and Sexism

Luis' work popped up on my tumblr newsfeed a while back and I really loved it. I'm always fascinated by things which seem shocking and offensive but Luis' work evidently has a much deeper purpose. Undoubtedly his work is shocking but offers a very interesting critique of society and modern cultural phenomenons.  I've recently being covering some interesting material on biopolitics, a Foucaltian idea. Whereby an individual is governed by a variety of different things such as media, technologies, educations etc. By governed I mean regulated or controlled so to speak. Interestingly I have been focusing on media as a means of regulating.  In relation to Luis Quiles work I think it's interesting to consider how some social medias and online medias regulate gender roles and simultaneously sexism.  This second image I found extremely interesting.
