Blas Cafe

I have been meaning to publish this post for an age, I really mean an age. A long time ago myself and my dear friend Fionn decided to visit some of Dublin's more quaint cafes to pick some of our favorite and find some new ones. 

I attended a poetry slam in The Chocolate Factory a few weeks before getting to Blas, where I heard it was a lovely cafe during the day. Eventually I managed to make the trip. 

It's an absolutely beautiful space which seems the ideal place to spend your day drinking coffee and reading books. At the time they were serving 3FE coffee and Wildflour Bakery cakes - a wonderful combination if I say so myself! As I've mentioned it has been a while since I've been so this may have changed. 


I remember being vaguely disappointed with the service but the space is so wonderful that I almost instantly forgot about it. As you can see from the photos below, its bright and brilliant. 



Blas Cafe is located off Parnell Street around the corner from Cineworld if you fancy taking a trip and a taste. I would recommend checking it out if you're located around this part of town.

So everybody loves tumblr. I'll admit, it's great for art ideas, decoration, style ideas, and just generally things which are nice to look at. But tumblr, like many social networks, also has a dark side. As many of you who use tumblr already know there is some unusual pages, which is good, it's always nice to see variety in blogs and there is something for everyone. Although, there is some pages on tumblr which are perhaps indulgent, and encouraging the wrong things. Some that I have seen include pro-self harm pages, pro ana/mia (ana being anorexia and mia being bulimia). pages, which is frankly disgraceful. Luis Quiles, Social Media and Sexism

Luis' work popped up on my tumblr newsfeed a while back and I really loved it. I'm always fascinated by things which seem shocking and offensive but Luis' work evidently has a much deeper purpose. Undoubtedly his work is shocking but offers a very interesting critique of society and modern cultural phenomenons.  I've recently being covering some interesting material on biopolitics, a Foucaltian idea. Whereby an individual is governed by a variety of different things such as media, technologies, educations etc. By governed I mean regulated or controlled so to speak. Interestingly I have been focusing on media as a means of regulating.  In relation to Luis Quiles work I think it's interesting to consider how some social medias and online medias regulate gender roles and simultaneously sexism.  This second image I found extremely interesting.
