HAIM

Image
I decided I'm probably very over due a slightly more light-hearted post. A lot of my posts recently have been very serious and dealing with important issues. Which is always good, but it's nice to have a mix of everything which is my aim! This is HAIM, and I've chosen their video 'Failing' as I love it and think it's very very catchy! I've heard a lot about this band and have been meaning to look into them for quiet some time. I eventually got an opportunity to do so. Truly incredible. It's always nice to discover a new female band, being the feminist that I tend to be I always enjoy a female band. They are unusual and hard to describe but would to an extent remind me of some bands from the 90s? Maybe that's a bit radical. They remind me of earlier rock bands, which is nice, creates a sense of nostalgia but from a new group which is refreshing! Hope you enjoy them. Much love x

Fashion Detox.

Detox: How People Power is Cleaning Up Fashion.  I think every Brand should promote this. I've watched a variety of documentaries on the living conditions people of had to live within as a result of these big brands polluting. Their homes, communities and cities are destroyed and dangerous.  Although some people may argue there is more important changes these brands can make such as fairtrade labour and better pay for workers. The reality is that these people also need an income and that this wage is better than no wage.  However destroying someone's health and quality of life as a result of production is awful and should be challenged and stopped. Greenpeace have started some really interesting protests throughout the world challenging these brands to clean up their act. It's a genius idea. As is mentioned in the video, the public finding out about this for big companies, it is a PR disaster, however changing their practices to cleaner ones, this p...

Hope everyone had  a lovely Christmas and a nice New Year. Here's a band I'm currently a little obsessed with. This song is taken from their acoustic album Flaws which is lovely. Really chilled out and relaxed, keeping my calm during exams!

In other news, The XX have released a video for their song Chained off their new album Coexist.  Is anything they do ever not amazing! Here's a listen. Currently touring the UK at the moment they recently released another date to play Dublin in June.

Sharing Space.

Image
Last Wednesday night was spent sipping tea, and enjoying some beautiful artwork. I attended an exhibition in Ballyfermotte called "Sharing Space." The project was started by students in February and will be on display until June.  The purpose of this project was designed to be a project which helped the community and art students of Ballyfermotte College of Further Education interact together. It allowed people to question the idea of both sharing and space. According to professors of the college; "The project brings together residents from the area with art students from the BCFE."  I went to this project to support my lovely friend Sophie. Who is now finished her first year in Ballyfermott and is now going on to study at the National College of Art and Design. No surprise as you can see from some of her artwork below. On the right is Sophie beside two of her pieces.  Sophie explained the idea behind her pieces which...

Bully, the movie.

Image
This is the trailer for the film, Bully, the movie, which has been released in America. In short, this film follows the story of two parents, whose own son of eleven years old committed suicide due to bullying. This film looks absolutely remarkable, unfortunately I haven't seen it yet, and I'm not sure if it will be released here. I think everyone needs to watch this. The reality of this poor boys life is heartbreaking to say the very least. Bullying is something which effects more than just one person, and it effects millions every year, as the trailer states. Share this on your page. This is something which deserves to get a lot of publicity.
