Today, I'm Listening To: Gesaffelstein

Image
For some of you this may seem like something I'm unlikely to listen to, but I'm pretty varied with my music taste. A friend introduced me to this amazing DJ a while back and I had forgotten about him. Recently I've been listening to him considerably more lately when I've been going running (when I say running I mean struggling to run). Without further delay, this is the French DJ Gesaffelstein. I'd like to share the video for Pursuit because I think it's a really bizarre video with some really interesting things featured. Also an incredible song.

'Or As The Moment Itself, Is Close To The Next Moment.'

Needless to say I've a soft spot for poetry, spoken word and my home town, a combination of all three was just magical and inspiring. You can't help but feel a little patriotic, if you can be patriotic about a city? As acknowledges on Youtube, Stephen James Smith  recites a beautiful poem by Louis Mac Neice depicting the wonders of Dublin. Giving a myriad of reasons to come and explore. I don't know anything about Louis unfortunately. However Stephen presented at Lingo Festival one of the nights I attended and was wonderful. Worth checking out for any of you based in Dublin.

Today, I'm Listening To: ASTR

These were a wonderful discovery on Spotify, so I can't take much credit. They have a great, relaxing electro sound which reminds me of some cool 1990 bands like Portishead. I'm a bit of a sucker for a female vocalist with electronic music, so these were love at first listen. Interestingly they remind me of Young Wonder a lot. For the record, they also have a fantastic cover of Drake's hit 'Hold On We're Going Home.' I'd like to share 'Operate' as this song has really grown on me. I also really enjoy these video with a retro kind of film with the unclear filming and montages.

Today I'm Listening To: Broods

This exceptional duo where a discovery on Spotify oddly enough. There's something distinctive about these two which I really love and I can't quite put my finger on it. The singer reminds me of Banks, but the music and lyrics are arguably better. Also some aspects of the music, harmonies and looping would remind me if James Blake. Perhaps it's the combination of the two which I love so much.  I'd like to share the video for Bridges. I've been listening to this song on repeat since I've discovered them. Literally non stop. I love the simplicity of the corus with the strong background beats. I also really love the video which is the simplistic concept of exploring a couples' relationship. Something that's become a new theme that I love to see.

Introducing The Cobra Snake

I was listening to the old classic 'Good Girls Go Bad' by Cobra Starship and I recalled this photographer I discovered around the time. His photography is predominantly from parties with lots of famous and beautiful faces.  This is The Cobra Snake . I wanted to share some of his photos!

And Be Impressed, By The Better Sex.

This is a very important message from the lovely Kate Nash. I feel as though spoken word does not get enough publicity at all these days, so it was a breath of fresh air to hear it featured in this song. It very powerfully gets the message across - promoting as Kate says self respect among women. I figured I would try to get a video of Kate performing it rather than just a photo of the album cover. Apologies if it isn't the best quality.

Today, I'm Listening To: Hoizer

It has been forever since I've posted anything on this as I've been extremely preoccupied with college work. There's been a lot of hype surrounding this new and emerging talent that is Hozier. I hadn't really managed to find the time to listen however recently I've been listening to his album on Spotify. I must say it is a rather remarkable debut album which has a wonderfully sophisticated sound with hints of nostalgic love ballads and influence of blues music. I would like to share the video for "Take Me To Church." I was really struck by the lyrics in this song which convey a relationship with a woman as being a type of religious worship. The video however deals with the issue of homophobia. It is beautifully filmed and portrays the story of two lovers and the hardships so precisely in the space of 4 minutes. I have to tip my hat at such an achievement.
