Some of you might already be familiar with Syd. Syd originally started off with Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. To be entirely honest I was really shocked by Syd's voice when I first heard it, after watching her perform a dj set for OFWKTA in Dublin back in 2011, it was so intense and her voice and the music she produces is so drastically different to Odd Future. Syd then went on to The Internet, who released their first album in 2011 called Purple Naked Ladies, including the song 'Cocaine' which I grew to love very quickly. The Internet unquestionably has a number of really incredible musicians. After doing some collaborations with the likes of Snakeships and Kaytranda, Syd has finally gone solo and released her first album earlier this year. She's someone I expect will continue to grow and bring out some really great music in the future. Here is All About Me,

Rudimental have been around the block for a while and I've been a fan from the get go. I'm not sure what you would categorize Rudimental as, genre wise, but they wouldn't be my usual. When I saw the video for 'Waiting All Night' I was so inspired to see popular music with a fresh video about something a bit more real, rather than girls dancing at a club.  Their latest release 'Rumour Mill' I've been listening to non-stop and really enjoying it. Summer is almost here, I can taste it.  I've been completely swamped with college work and am still powering through, so I've definitely been a little neglectful recently.  However, this is an amazing tune which I've discovered. Yet another wonderful discovery on Spotify, which is why Spotify is really growing on me as it suggests music you will love. That aside, I found Josef Salavat the other day when listening to music.  If I had to attempt to describe him, I would say perhaps a happy version of James Blake. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten much out at the minute but I'm most definitely looking forward to hearing more of his music and anticipate him being featured on a lot of soundtracks for some reason.  I'm going to share two videos because I really love both of these songs. The first being 'Hustler' which is a serious enough melody with wonderful beats supporting it.  The second is 'Open Season' a much more upbeat one. Maybe I have heard this already on a soundtrack? It's a song that gets me excited for summer for some reason. This video is a lovely black and white live video.  

Okay, so I'm really not up to speed with Daft Punk at all - I know, what am I evening doing with my life right? Anyhow, I discovered this absolute amazing tune the other day.  Literally nothing but feel good vibes all round! It's Friday so no better day to share it. Hello weekend. Also on a side note, we've had awful weather in Dublin all weekend and it finally stopped raining. I've been listening to a lot more hip hop and rap music lately, normally I'm a bit more of an indie, folk type with my music. Nonetheless, as a genre it's gradually growing on me. I suppose predominantly stemming from Childish Gambino.  I was listening to radio on Spotify based on Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar popped up. I'm well aware I'm a bit late to the party with Kendrick, as he has blown up in the last few years. For some reason when I listened to him before I just couldn't get into him at all. Today I'd like to share A.D.H.D I love this video and the song in general. 

For some of you this may seem like something I'm unlikely to listen to, but I'm pretty varied with my music taste. A friend introduced me to this amazing DJ a while back and I had forgotten about him. Recently I've been listening to him considerably more lately when I've been going running (when I say running I mean struggling to run). Without further delay, this is the French DJ Gesaffelstein. I'd like to share the video for Pursuit because I think it's a really bizarre video with some really interesting things featured. Also an incredible song.

This is a very important message from the lovely Kate Nash. I feel as though spoken word does not get enough publicity at all these days, so it was a breath of fresh air to hear it featured in this song. It very powerfully gets the message across - promoting as Kate says self respect among women. I figured I would try to get a video of Kate performing it rather than just a photo of the album cover. Apologies if it isn't the best quality.

It has been forever since I've posted anything on this as I've been extremely preoccupied with college work. There's been a lot of hype surrounding this new and emerging talent that is Hozier. I hadn't really managed to find the time to listen however recently I've been listening to his album on Spotify. I must say it is a rather remarkable debut album which has a wonderfully sophisticated sound with hints of nostalgic love ballads and influence of blues music. I would like to share the video for "Take Me To Church." I was really struck by the lyrics in this song which convey a relationship with a woman as being a type of religious worship. The video however deals with the issue of homophobia. It is beautifully filmed and portrays the story of two lovers and the hardships so precisely in the space of 4 minutes. I have to tip my hat at such an achievement.

I decided I'm probably very over due a slightly more light-hearted post. A lot of my posts recently have been very serious and dealing with important issues. Which is always good, but it's nice to have a mix of everything which is my aim! This is HAIM, and I've chosen their video 'Failing' as I love it and think it's very very catchy! I've heard a lot about this band and have been meaning to look into them for quiet some time. I eventually got an opportunity to do so. Truly incredible. It's always nice to discover a new female band, being the feminist that I tend to be I always enjoy a female band. They are unusual and hard to describe but would to an extent remind me of some bands from the 90s? Maybe that's a bit radical. They remind me of earlier rock bands, which is nice, creates a sense of nostalgia but from a new group which is refreshing! Hope you enjoy them. Much love x
